Viru With His Idol

Virender Sehwag having original capacity whose rough edges make him all the more interesting. By the time he had scored his first centuries in one-day cricket and Test cricket, he was already eliciting comparisons with his idol Sachin Tendulkar.. Like Tendulkar, he is short and square with curly hair, plays the straight drive, backfoot punch and whip off the hips identically, but leaves Tendulkar in the shade when it comes to overconfidence.

He also once almost split the cricket world: when he was banned for a match by the ICC referee Mike Denness on grounds of excessive appealing, the Indian board wasn't prepared to listen, and even played an unofficial Test with South Africa to prove a point. Sehwag bowls effective, loopy offspin, and is a reliable catcher in the slips. When a compromise was finally reached, Sehwag was back to his merry ways.

Asked to open the innings in Tests on the tour of England in 2002, Sehwag proved an instant hit, cracking an 80 and a 100 in the first two matches. habitually thereafter, he kept conjuring pivotal innings at the top of the order, none as significant as India's first 300 (which he bought up, characteristically, with a six), at Multan against Pakistan in early 2004.

Though he continued to dominate in the Test showground, Sehwag's one-day form dipped alarmingly - after January 2004, he went through a period of 60 matches where he averaged under 29. Despite his fitness levels dropping and his one-day spot being under threat - he was even dropped for the final one-dayer against England in April 2006 - Sehwag continued to sparkle in Tests, as shown by his magnificent 254 at Lahore. In June, he came excruciatingly close to scoring a century before lunch in the first day against West Indies in St Lucia, a feat never accomplished before by an Indian batsman.

Shewag Proves His Individuality

In the first one-dayer at Bangalore, Sehwag helped himself to a quick half-century before scalping three crucial wickets to play a leading role in India's victory. Sehwag made a strong comeback to the Indian team during the Australia tour of India in 2000-01. Man of the Match in the first one-dayer, Sehwag was forced to miss the rest of the series with a fractured finger. Promoted to open the batting in the absence of Sachin Tendulkar, Sehwag hammered a 70-ball ton against the hapless Kiwis in a tri-series played in Sri Lanka. That innings made his reputation and secured his place in the Indian one-day team. With his debut hundred in the first Test at South Africa he then went on to confirm his status as the brightest young talent on the Indian cricketing horizon.

BCCI UnHappy With Shewag

The BCCI was reportedly unhappy with Sehwag's comments in an interview with a news channel. A day after Virendra Sehwag's comments on the player burnout issue and Sourav Ganguly issue he was given a warning by the BCCI. Board secretary Niranjan Shah responded saying whichever players thought that they needed rest could take permission from the board to rest for a few matches and this way new players could also get a chance to play for the team and that would help in building the team for the future. Niranjan Shah aslo took a dig at Sehwag saying players who are out of form ,should on the contrary try to play as much as possible to regain form.
Sehwag said that Sourav Ganguly was a good captain, who nurtured the youngsters well and that the team members miss him. He also spoke on the player burnout issue by pointing out that alot of the Indian players' performances could be affected at the 2007 world cup due to the fatigue of playing so many matches. The board has made it clear that the ICC cricket calender will be followed and that the board was only adhering to ICC guidelines of a maximum of 105 playing days in a years.

Kapil criticize Viru

Kapildev in India daily interview criticize, two Indian batsmen performance. He advises viru & kaif they should understand & for sake of the team they should go back to drawing board means domestic cricket and sort out their problems with form and technique. He told that whoever the player is, if he is not performing well then there is no way that player can be included in the team on the basis of reputation.

Viru Tie With Arti

Sehwag married Arti Alhawat in April, 2004 under heavy security in a media publicized wedding which was hosted by Arun Jaitley, the union law minister of India at his residence. Sehwag is fondly referred to in the media as the Prince of Najafgarh, Najafgarh being his home locality in Delhi. A lifelong vegetarian, he also owns a vegetarian eatery, Sehwag Favourites, which opened in late 2005 in the Fun Republic cineplex in Delhi.
The majority of the products on the menu are named after cricketing themes related to his memomrable innings, such as Multan Ke Sultan Ki Tikdi, meaning dish for three persons, which alludes to his triple century in Multan and is priced at 309 rupees, which he scored in Multan. There are plans to expand the chain across India, with a second outlet in Ludhiana. He also does charity work for UNICEF.

Viru Originates...

Virendra shewag the son of a grain merchant, though now settled in New Delhi, the Sehwag family hailed from Haryana. Sehwag was the third of four children born to father Krishan and mother Krishna Sehwag, with two older sisters Manju, Anju and younger brother Vinod.
Sehwag made his debut for Delhi cricket team in first class cricket in the 1997-98 season. He was selected to the North Zone cricket team for the Duleep Trophy the following 1998-99 season, ending fifth in the total runscoring list. The following year he was fourth on the Duleep Trophy run scoring list, including a 274, the highest score of the competition.
